So, we're down to less than 2 weeks til the New York City triathlon, and I'm SICK!
I've been taking it easy, and ran a brisk 2 miles (9:30 pace) for 2 of the last 4 days, but i'm really hurting. With my present sinus infection, I actually feel like someone kicked me in the face, and I'm hoping and praying that it wears off July 18th.
Today was the Tri Team send off, with some final words of advice from the coaches, and our final social gathering as the NYC Chapter of Team in Training for the NYC Tri. Its wild to think that we are at the end of our 5 months of training, and the end is so near.
I'm really excited and am beginning to gear up (literally) for the triathlon. I spend about $200 on gear and nutrition for the race at Performance Bike, so maybe when the box arrives, I'll take a picture of all my goodies. :) But, after the bike fitting I had on Friday, I knew it was time to get a new bike helmet. Literally everyone in the store gave me a hard time, and one guy went through the process of describing how a helmet that is more than 3 years old is not going to be able to effectively protect my brain from a crash. In essence, any head crash contains 2 crashes:
1) when you head hits the pavement
2) when your brain hits the inside of your skull.
Nice visual, right? This guy kept gushing about it, and definitely got the point home. I subsequently bought this spiffy brain-protector. I like that it matches my bike, and I'm ready to rock it out! :) It might be a man's helmet, but I think its damn sexy (and I did not pay the $100 that it is valued at!)
